Sofia - President Georgi Purvanov will attend observances of the 120th anniversary of the adoption of the first Bar Act in Bulgaria organized by the Supreme Bar Council. Representatives of the Paris-based International Bar Association and the Brussels Office of the Bar Council have confirmed participation.

Sofia - The 47th congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) begins on Saturday at the National Palace of Culture under the motto: "We Create Better Future". The delegates will exceed 890. The agenda of the forum includes election of general party bodies, adoption of a new state and programme as well as a new political framework for participation in the next elections for MPs and MEPs. BSP leader Sergei Stanishev will deliver a political report.

Sofia - Culture Minister Stefan Danailov conferred Friday with US Ambassador here Nancy McEldowney, Danailov's Ministry said in a press release. The two discussed the achievements in cultural cooperation, upcoming cultural projects between Bulgaria and the United States and ways of funding culture.

Sofia - An association presented at the National Gallery for Foreign Art on Thursday will promote the development of business and cultural relations between Bulgaria and India and will facilitate contacts between investors. The event was attended by Chandrakant Salunkhe, founder President of the SME Chamber of India and the India International Trade Centre, and Niraj Kumar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Association. They held meetings at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of the Economy and Energy.

Brussels - In 2030, Bulgaria's population will be 6.753 million, and in 2050 it will be 5.923 million, according to the latest demographic forecasts of the European Commission made public on Friday.

Sopot, Central Bulgaria - More than 1,000 people joined a strike and blocked the entrances to the Vazov Machine Building Works here on Friday. The strike was called by the Podkrepa Labour Confederation. The other union, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions, distanced itself from the protest. Agreement was reached with the management and the strike was called off later on.
